Kathmandu.- The death toll from the devastating floods in Nepal rose to 1,295 and the number of missing stands at 4,898, according to the latest report from authorities published this Friday, on a day marked by the rescue of two workers who spent ten days trapped in a tunnel.
The recent report from the Nepal Police raised the death toll to 1,295, while the number of missing persons decreased to 4,898, including at least 618 foreigners, among them two Spaniards, as official sources confirmed to EFE.
The update of the figures coincided with a glimmer of hope coming from the Trishuli 3A hydroelectric plant, when emergency teams managed to pull out alive two employees who were trapped when water, mud, and debris buried the complex.

One of those rescued, Kabir Maharjan, is in critical condition and is receiving intensive care at a military hospital in Kathmandu for severe hypothermia and extreme exhaustion in his limbs.

The other worker, Sanjay Sah, is in stable condition and reported that, during his confinement, he was able to communicate by shouting with several people who were near him.
The identification of the fatalities remains one of the greatest challenges for the Himalayan country; authorities detailed that, of the 1,295 bodies recovered, including 121 minors, 1,263 remain unidentified.
Forensic experts have intensified the collection of DNA samples, having already accumulated 2,106 genetic profiles of the deceased and their relatives.
The floods of last August 26, one of the greatest disasters in recent years in the Himalayan nation, caused significant damage to hydroelectric plants and other infrastructure, in addition to destroying homes, roads, and bridges in several districts.
