NEW YORK.– New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani congratulated the Venezuelan community residing in the city this Saturday on the occasion of the 215th anniversary of Venezuela’s Independence, while acknowledging their contributions to the economic, cultural, and social development of the Big Apple.
Through a message released on the occasion of the national holiday, the mayor expressed his best wishes to Venezuelans and highlighted the strength of a community that, as he stated, is an essential part of the diversity that characterizes New York. He also reiterated his administration’s commitment to continue supporting immigrant communities.
Mamdani took the opportunity to send a message of solidarity to the families affected by the earthquake that recently struck Venezuela, a tragedy that has left hundreds of victims and has impacted thousands of Venezuelans who have relatives in that country.
New York City is home to one of the largest Venezuelan communities in the United States, made up of thousands of people who have arrived in recent years in search of new opportunities and who keep their traditions alive through cultural activities and patriotic commemorations.
Every July 5th, Venezuela commemorates the signing of the Act of the Declaration of Independence of 1811, an event that marked the beginning of its life as a sovereign nation and made it the first Hispanic American territory to formally declare its independence from the Spanish Crown.
