NEW YORK.- Several properties, including his Colt 45 caliber pistol, belonging to the American mob boss Alphonse Gabriel Capone, better known as “Al Capone, Scarface, and Boss of Bosses,” were auctioned for 3 million dollars last Friday in Sacramento, California, reported The Chicago Tribune newspaper.
The topic has motivated Dominicans in Upper Manhattan in various public places to refresh the history of the mobster, engaging in discussions, telling stories, and recounting his movies.
Among other properties, the auction titled “A Century of Notoriety: The Estate of Al Capone” features 174 photos considered family heirlooms, a Patek Philippe pocket watch with embedded diamonds and the initials AC, a gold money clip, and an 18-karat yellow gold belt buckle ($22,500).
The mobster’s favorite handgun sold for 860 thousand dollars plus a 21% buyer’s premium.
One of the mobster’s granddaughters, Diane, said that her grandfather carried the finely engraved, wood-handled pistol for “self-defense” and used it several times, “it probably saved his life on a few occasions,” she stated.
