NEW YORK.- The First Cultural and 12th Book Fair 2021, held on the 15th, 16th, and 17th at the George Washington school in Upper Manhattan, concluded with great success this Sunday night, to the rhythm of merengue and perico ripiao, among other genres typical of Dominican culture.
The Commissioner of Culture, Lourdes Batista, and the general director of the fair, lawyer and political scientist Javier Fuentes, declared that attendance at the event exceeded expectations, which makes them feel happy.
From last Thursday’s Gala Dinner, this Friday’s inauguration, to the closing this Sunday night, everything was packed; it was extraordinary. We worked for that, the interdisciplinary teams and the entire team that accompanies us have done a great job, the support of our people has been incredible,” explained Batista.
He thanked the Dominican and American authorities, the leaders of Dominican descent, President Luis Abinader, the past and current Minister of Culture, and the entire diaspora for their support.
Meanwhile, Fuentes expressed that the success observed was unexpected, as it was overwhelming. He said he felt extremely happy with the response the diaspora has given to the spectacle of Dominican identity.

He added, “We feel jubilant, we were able to observe how the pavilions were filled, and the community was seeking and receiving information,” expressed Fuentes.
The Fair was dedicated to the academic Silvio Torres Saillant, and was titled: “Dominican Migration”, with its motto: “to read is to migrate between pages”, keeping in mind that we are “Making Culture as we Walk”.
