NEW YORK.- The United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has suspended nationwide workplace raids in search of undocumented immigrants, among whom are thousands of Dominicans working in various companies across dozens of states.
Likewise, the powerful federal agency announced that the plan of President Joe Biden’s Administration is to focus on “unscrupulous” employers who “exploit” undocumented immigrants to pay less for their labor.
We will focus on the most unscrupulous employers, protecting workers while at the same time protecting legitimate American businesses,” states the DHS.
The director of the National Immigration Law Center indicated that the announcement “signals decisive changes for the future that will make workplaces safer and more equitable for workers across the country, and puts an end to harmful workplace raids.”
“This measure will ensure that immigrants working in schools, factories, food processing plants, hospitals, construction sites, among other places, can do their jobs safely, and can protest against unfair treatment without fearing intimidation, arrest, or deportation,” he said.

For its part, the Congressional Hispanic Caucus noted that the new rules issued “will put an end to large-scale worksite enforcement operations, and will hold unscrupulous employers accountable.”
The DHS requests that you submit proposals within the next 60 days to carry out these changes.
According to the new rules, the priority will be the detention and deportation of criminals and those who have recently crossed the border illegally, the federal agency reported.
