Pope Leo XIV called Friday for technologies such as artificial intelligence to remain at the service of the human person rather than becoming instruments of domination and injustice.
Speaking at UNESCO headquarters in Paris during his visit to France, the pontiff reflected on the dignity of human life and the need to protect it amid the rapid development of new technologies.
“Our efforts in this area must ensure that new technologies continue to serve the human person, rather than becoming another instrument of domination and injustice,” Leo XIV said during his address.
The pope highlighted the potential risks associated with emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, and stressed the importance of ensuring that technological advances remain centered on human dignity.
Leo XIV made his remarks during his visit to UNESCO, an organization that Pope John Paul II also visited in 1980.
