Prosecutors rested their case Monday in the trial of Lindsay Clancy, the Massachusetts mother accused of murdering her three young children in January 2023.
Clancy, 36, does not dispute that she fatally strangled Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan, 8 months old. Her defense argues that she should not be held criminally responsible because she was suffering from postpartum psychosis and severe mental illness at the time.
The prosecution called more than 70 witnesses, including Clancy’s former husband, medical providers and people who interacted with her around the time of the killings. Prosecutors argue she acted intentionally and rationally, while the defense has portrayed her as a caring mother experiencing severe untreated mental illness.
The trial could last up to eight weeks. Clancy has pleaded not guilty to three counts of murder and could face life in prison if convicted.
