Mexican authorities confirmed that the human remains found in a clandestine grave in Baja California Sur belong to Carlos Alberto Beltrán Olmeda, a former political adviser to Sinaloa Governor Rubén Rocha Moya.
The remains were discovered on July 13 in the municipality of Los Cabos, in a dirt road leading to the La Ballena neighborhood in San José del Cabo, according to the Baja California Sur State Attorney General’s Office.
Authorities said forensic specialists recovered a skeleton from a clandestine burial and transferred it to the Forensic Medical Service for examination. DNA testing later confirmed the identity as Beltrán Olmeda, who had been reported missing on June 6.
According to his official résumé published by Latinus, Beltrán Olmeda served as an adviser to Rocha Moya in 2021. He also held advisory positions in the municipalities of Navolato and Ahome in Sinaloa, as well as in Nogales, Sonora, and in Mexico’s federal Chamber of Deputies.
At the time of his disappearance, Beltrán Olmeda had recently resigned as Municipal Secretary of Los Cabos.
