Madrid. The Government of Spain reported that around 49,000 people have reportedly crossed from Morocco into the autonomous city of Ceuta in the last few hours, including thousands of minors, in what represents one of the largest migration crises recorded at the country’s southern border. The figure is provisional and continues to be updated as identification, assistance, and control efforts progress.
Faced with the situation, the Spanish Executive deployed a large security operation with reinforcements from the Civil Guard, the National Police, and the support of the Army, with the aim of controlling the border, assisting the people who entered, and guaranteeing order in the autonomous city.

The Government also reiterated that it will proceed with the return of those who have entered irregularly, although it assured that the process will be carried out in accordance with current legislation regarding asylum, child protection, and respect for fundamental rights.
The authorities are keeping identification and humanitarian assistance operations active, while continuing coordination with Morocco and the competent bodies to manage the migration emergency affecting Ceuta.
