“For the position of ombudsman in charge we want to designate, propose, a man who has also been an expert in human rights all his life“, pointed out the president of the AN, the chavista Jorge Rodríguez, before naming Saab in the session broadcast by the state channel ANTV.

Minutes before this proposal, Rodríguez reported that Saab resigned from his position as Attorney General, without the specific reasons for such decision being known, despite sending a letter to the AN’s board of directors, as well as Ruiz Angulo, who argued personal, family, and health reasons for leaving the Ombudsman’s Office in a letter. Both officials had been ratified in these positions in October 2024, for a period of seven years, that is, until 2031. Saab, who has also been a governor supported by Chavismo, arrived at the Prosecutor’s Office in 2017 by appointment of the plenipotentiary National Constituent Assembly, a forum made up exclusively of supporters of the Nicolás Maduro government.
