The coldest place in the world records the warmest January
Moscow.- The Siberian village of Oymyakon, known as the coldest place on the planet, has recorded this year the warmest January since measurements have been taken, local media reported.
According to the Meteonovosti portal, the average temperature in Oymyakon last month exceeded the norm by almost 20 degrees.
Thus, on January 28th the thermometers in the town registered about 21 degrees below zero, when the average for January is 47 and more degrees below zero.
Meanwhile, Moscow is experiencing an anomalous cold snap these days with temperatures of more than 20 degrees below zero.
In the 21st century, the coldest winter in Moscow was recorded in 2005, when temperatures at night showed between 25 and 30 degrees below zero.
The current cold snap settled in the Russian capital after days of heavy snowfall that left snowdrifts of more than 60 centimeters.
