Vatican City.- Pope Leo XIV called on the international community this Wednesday to remain “always vigilant” to prevent “the horror of genocide from befalling any people again,” while demanding a world free of antisemitism and persecution.
“I renew my appeal to the community of nations to always be vigilant, so that the horror of genocide does not fall again on any people and a society based on mutual respect and the common good is built,” said the pontiff during the greeting to Italian-speaking pilgrims in his traditional Wednesday General Audience.
In his intervention, the Pope recalled yesterday’s celebration of the International Holocaust Remembrance Day, a tragedy that, as he emphasized, “caused the death of millions of Jews and many other people”.
“On this annual occasion of painful remembrance, I ask the Almighty for the gift of a world without antisemitism, without prejudice, without oppression, and without persecution for any human being,” stated Leo XIV.
