Vatican City.- Pope Leo XIV urged this Wednesday to facilitate the possibility for those who are unable to be absent from work on Sundays to participate in Mass, during his catechesis at the general audience held in St. Peter’s Basilica.
“I encourage you all to create the best possible conditions so that those who do not have the possibility of being absent from work on Sundays can also participate in Holy Mass,” the Pope said.

The pontiff recalled the importance of Sunday for Catholics by citing Saint John Paul II, in the Apostolic Letter Dies Domini, which “teaches that Sunday is the Lord’s day, the day of the Church, the day of man and, finally, “the day of days”.
And he added that “to sanctify Sunday it is essential to celebrate the Eucharist” and that “it cannot be replaced by a merely virtual presence, nor is it reduced to a merely passive meeting. The liturgical assembly is, in effect, realized in the active participation of brothers and sisters”.
