Washington/Caracas.- The Embassy of the United States for Venezuela confirmed this Friday that all U.S. citizens who were imprisoned in Venezuela have been released in the midst of a process of releases from Caracas and rapprochement between the White House and Miraflores.
“We are pleased to confirm the release, by the interim authorities, of all U.S. citizens known to be detained in Venezuela”, assures the U.S. External Office for Venezuela, which operates in Bogotá since both countries closed their embassies in Washington and Caracas in 2019 after breaking diplomatic relations.

This same Friday, the release of a man with American and Peruvian nationality was learned, as confirmed by the NGO Foro Penal, dedicated to the defense of political prisoners in Venezuela. US authorities also requested information in case there are other US citizens still detained and of whom there is no knowledge. By Thursday, Foro Penal had confirmed the release of 302 political prisoners in Venezuela since January 8, when the release of a “significant number” of people was announced, a few days after the United States attack in the South American country, which ended with the capture of President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores. This week, the Minister of Interior and Justice, Diosdado Cabello, assured that 808 people have been released from prison since “before December”, without specifying the date, and denied the existence of political prisoners in the South American country. The confirmation of the release of all Americans detained in Venezuela coincides with the announcement by the acting president, Delcy Rodríguez, of a general amnesty law for political prisoners since 1999, aimed at “healing the wounds left by political confrontation.”
