Trump announces the construction of two new warships

The President of the United States, Donald Trump, announced this Monday the plans to build two new warships, appearing before the press along with the Secretary of War, Pete Hegseth; and the Secretary of the Navy, John Phelan; in Palm Beach (Florida). “As commander in chief, it is a great honor for me to announce that I have approved a plan for the Navy to begin construction of two new very large warships, the largest we have ever built,” the president declared.

During his intervention, the occupant of the White House highlighted that the U.S. needs “desperately ships” since some of the American vessels are “old, worn out and obsolete.” Each of the ships built will be “the largest warship in the history of our country, the largest warship ever built in the history of the world”, he promised. Previously, a White House source confirmed to Bloomberg that the president’s announcement would be related to shipbuilding, but declined to provide further details. Phelan communicated last Friday about the construction plans for a new class of frigates. The initiative is part of the development of the ‘Golden Fleet‘ to renew the Navy and address deficiencies in smaller ships.

The first ship, called FF(X), will be built by the shipping company HII, based in Newport News (Virginia), which will use its Legend-class patrol vessel as a base. The Secretary of the Navy indicated that it is planned to be built by 2028.
