New York.- The President of the United States, Donald Trump, stated this Sunday that a transition like the one in Venezuela, after US forces arrested Nicolás Maduro in Caracas, is the “perfect scenario” for Iran.

“What we did in Venezuela, I think, is the perfect scenario”, Trump assured in a phone interview with The New York Times. Asked about the transition model to be implemented in Iran, after the joint US and Israeli operation ended the life of the supreme leader, the Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the president highlighted what he considers successes of the operation in Venezuela and suggested his intention to replicate some aspects.

The NYT points out that Trump’s advisors would have warned him of the cultural and historical differences between both countries that make it impossible to replicate the strategy. Even so, the Republican insisted on the idea of using the Caracas model for Tehran in which only by overthrowing the leader did he get more cooperation with his country. “Everyone kept their jobs, except for two people,” he said. The leader stated that he has “three very good options” to lead Iran, although he preferred to keep the names to himself. “I won’t reveal them now. Let’s finish the job first,” he asserted. Trump expressed confidence that Iran’s elite forces, including the Revolutionary Guard, would hand over their weapons to the Iranian population, who he asserted depend on the decision to overthrow the government, something that would differ from the Venezuela model. “They’ve been talking about it for years, so now, obviously, they’ll have the opportunity,” he commented. The president lamented the death of the three U.S. soldiers and insisted that more could occur, but he did not appear weak and assured that the Pentagon has forces to extend the operation “if necessary”. “It won’t be difficult,” he said. “We have a huge amount of ammunition. As you know, we have ammunition stored in different countries around the world.” Trump celebrated having “destroyed a large part” of the Iranian Navy and assured that both the U.S. and Israel have done “very well”: “I would say we are quite ahead of schedule.”
