U.S. President Donald Trump said he does not believe Russia intends to attack NATO countries, amid growing European warnings about an alleged Russian threat.

“I don’t think [Vladimir] Putin will do it,” Trump told reporters Friday when asked about the possibility of Russia attacking NATO territory. He said he speaks with the Russian president and knows him “very well.”

“Putin has no intention of attacking NATO territory,” Trump emphasized.

Trump’s comments came as he addressed new accusations from German authorities against Moscow following the discovery of an unidentified drone carrying explosives at an airport in Leipzig.
