The United States Senate reached an agreement to avoid the government shutdown that, it was feared, could occur from midnight on Friday, announced this Thursday the president, Donald Trump. “Republicans and Democrats in Congress have come together to fund most of the government until September, while providing an extension to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS),” the president wrote on his Truth Social account. “Let’s hope that both Republicans and Democrats give a much-needed bipartisan yes,” he added. The parties agreed to separate the bill that would fund DHS from the other five pending, less controversial ones, and provide that department with resources for two weeks while they debate the demands of the Democratic Party to limit the activity of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Service (ICE). The vote is expected to take place tonight.
