The U.S. House of Representatives approved this Tuesday a spending package of approximately $1.2 trillion, ending the partial government shutdown, reports AP. The measure was approved with a bipartisan vote at the insistence of President Donald Trump.
The legislation provides for the funding of most of the federal government until September 30. However, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) will receive funding only in the short term, for two weeks.

This deadline is designed to give lawmakers additional time to return and negotiate potential changes in the operations of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), as Democrats demand greater restrictions on its activities.
Previously, the U.S. president
stated that he was “working hard” with the Speaker of the House, Mike Johnson, to end the
partial shutdown, which began on Saturday after Congress failed to approve funding. He urged cooperation in good faith, but warned: “We cannot allow another prolonged, useless and destructive shutdown” that benefits no one. He concluded by calling for an affirmative vote from everyone.
