Caracas.- Venezuela invites experts from Egypt to participate in the reconstruction process in the Latin American country following the devastating earthquakes of last June 24, Venezuelan Foreign Minister Félix Plasencia said this Wednesday, following a telephone call with his Egyptian counterpart, Badr Abdelatty.
“We value Egypt’s experience in reconstruction processes following large-scale natural disasters and we invite experts from that country to participate in the recovery and reconstruction efforts being carried out by our Government,” said the Foreign Minister on the social network X.
According to his post, Plasencia thanked Abdelatty “for Egypt’s timely solidarity in the face of the earthquakes” in Venezuela, which left 6,125 dead, more than 16,700 injured, nearly 18,000 people homeless, and material damages that the World Bank estimates at 19.6 billion dollars.
On the other hand, the head of Venezuelan diplomacy assured that they evaluated “opportunities to strengthen bilateral cooperation, especially in trade, investment, and energy matters,” and expressed their commitment to “strengthen the historic ties of friendship.”
A five-ton shipment of medicine sent by Egypt arrived in Venezuela to strengthen the operational capacity of the National Public Health System, following the double earthquake last June, the Venezuelan Ministry of Communication reported on Tuesday venezuelan.
The shipment contains “analgesics, anti-inflammatories, antipyretics, antibiotics, antivirals, cardiovascular, digestive, antispasmodic, respiratory, and antiparasitic treatments,” as well as “drugs intended for the nervous system and mental health,” the Ministry of Communication indicated.
Last February, both countries underscored the “importance of continuing to strengthen a broad bilateral cooperation agenda,” the South American nation reported at the time.
Caracas and Cairo established diplomatic relations on November 15, 1950.
