Caracas.- Nicolás Maduro’s government received 252 Venezuelans detained since March in El Salvador and agreed to release a group of political prisoners and ten Americans, in an unprecedented exchange between Caracas and Washington.
Even without diplomatic relations, and with the former Spanish president José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero as an ally, Venezuela announced the arrival of 251 migrants on a deportation flight from the U.S., which included 7 of the 31 minors that Maduro’s government denounces as “kidnapped” in that country, after having been separated, it claims, from their deported parents.

The United States Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, was the first to report the agreement, stating on his social media about the release of ten Americans by the Maduro Administration and an undetermined number of “political prisoners”, in exchange for the return of Venezuelans imprisoned in El Salvador.
According to Rubio, this was achieved “thanks to the leadership” of President Donald Trump, and he also thanked the Salvadoran president, Nayib Bukele, “for helping to secure an agreement for the release” of the detained Americans.
