Several vehicles and containers were set on fire overnight in the El Príncipe neighborhood of Ceuta, Spain, with the fires occurring near a school area. Police and firefighters were deployed to the scene as flames forced some residents to leave their homes, according to Spanish outlet OKDIARIO.
The incident occurred amid ongoing tensions in Ceuta following the mass arrival of migrants from Morocco. OKDIARIO reported that several vehicles and containers were burned and that National Police, Local Police and the Fire and Rescue Service responded to the incident.
The report also cited recent comments by Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, who said Ceuta residents must adapt to what he described as their “structural reality,” while Interior Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska referred to residents’ concerns as a “subjective feeling of insecurity.”
OKDIARIO additionally reported allegations of robberies and sexual assaults involving migrants in Ceuta. However, those claims and the reported attribution of the crimes should be treated as allegations unless independently confirmed by police or judicial authorities.
