A 23-year-old woman died and an infant remains in critical condition after they were found with injuries consistent with a fall from a balcony at a Bronx apartment building early Tuesday morning, according to authorities.

The NYPD said officers responded to a 911 call from a building near Ollinville and Allerton avenues around 3:38 a.m. They found the woman and the baby outside the building with injuries consistent with a fall.

Both were taken to Jacobi Hospital, where the woman was pronounced dead. The infant remains in critical condition.

Authorities have not determined whether the woman and baby fell, jumped or were pushed. Police have not made any arrests in connection with the incident.

A witness told investigators that the woman and infant appeared to have been thrown from the balcony, but authorities have not confirmed that account. Another witness said she heard the woman scream, “Please, don’t do this,” before seeing something fall to the ground.

Authorities have not released the identities of the woman or infant, and their relationship has not been confirmed.
