Spa-Francorchamps, Belgium. Italian Andrea Kimi Antonelli once again demonstrated why he leads the Formula 1 World Championship by authoritatively winning the 2026 Belgian Grand Prix, securing his sixth victory of the season and extending his lead at the top of the drivers’ standings.
The Mercedes driver dominated the race held at the Spa-Francorchamps circuit, recovering from a streak of three Grands Prix without a win. Antonelli crossed the finish line ahead of Charles Leclerc’s Ferrari and Max Verstappen’s Red Bull, who completed the podium.
The competition was marked from the first lap by the retirement of George Russell, Antonelli’s teammate, after contact with Lewis Hamilton. The incident left the Briton with practically no options to approach the championship lead.
Hamilton finished in fourth position, despite receiving a five-second penalty for the collision with Russell and subsequently being under investigation for an incident during a pit stop.
Mexican Sergio “Checo” Pérez was also unable to complete the race. The Cadillac driver retired on lap 14 due to a suspension failure, after having sustained damage following an incident at the start.
Another highlight was the spectacular maneuver by Argentine Franco Colapinto, who performed a double overtake on Pierre Gasly and Liam Lawson to finish tenth and score a valuable point.
With this result, Antonelli reached 204 points and extended his lead in the championship over Hamilton (159) and Russell (154), with twelve races remaining to conclude the season.
