ASUNCIÓN, Paraguay. Dominican
Víctor Pérez Genere won the bronze medal in the 125-kilogram freestyle wrestling category at the II Junior Pan American Games, which are being held in Asunción and conclude this Saturday.

Pérez Genere decisively defeated the local
Iván Gómez by 8-0 (5-0, by fall), displaying a technical dominance that allowed him to reach the podium. With this result, the Dominican wrestling team concluded its participation in the multi-sport event with two bronze medals, added to the one obtained by
Yorkis Carvajal Lerbours in the 60 kilos of the Greco-Roman style.
On his way to the bronze, Pérez defeated Mexican
Rizieri Chávez (6-4) in the quarterfinals, and in the semifinals he was surpassed 10-0 by technical superiority against the Brazilian
Gabriel Silva.
“This medal represents the work and effort of all my coaches. Now we must continue working for better development in the future,” expressed the Dominican wrestler after the victory.
With the performance this Friday, the Dominican Republic occupies the
18th position in the overall medal table with a total of
seven medals: one gold, two silver and four bronze.
Other wrestling results
- Juan Andrés (97 kg) lost the bronze medal match against the Mexican Juan Iturriza (15-2). Previously, he had defeated the Brazilian Lucas Imbernon (8-1), but fell in the quarterfinals against the American Thomas Dineen and in the semifinals against the Cuban Darell Lee.
- Juan Valerio (57 kg) was left without a chance after losing his three matches against José Falcón (Venezuela), Charles Farmer (USA), and Adrián Samano (Puerto Rico).
- Juan Gómez (74 kg) fell by 1-8 against the Puerto Rican Tanner Peake.
Karate
The Dominican
Keanu Feliz fought three matches, falling to
Hayato Yoshi (Mexico) by 1-0, drawing 2-2 with
Luka Salesky (Argentina, defeat by first advantage) and being eliminated by the Paraguayan
Dieter Rinck (4-2).
Men’s indoor volleyball
The Dominican sextet finished in fifth position after defeating 3-2 to
Colombia (25-20, 25-19, 21-25, 19-25, 15-10). The team finished with a 2-3 record in the event.
Men’s Beach Volleyball
The duo formed by
Rolvin Maldonado and
Ramón de Jesús finished in tenth place, after falling 2-0 (21-15, 21-15) against the Costa Ricans
Julián Araya and
Jhostin Varela. Maldonado contributed 12 points and De Jesús 9, while Varela (18) and Araya (13) secured ninth place for Costa Rica.
