BOSTON, Massachusetts. – Former Dominican star and Hall of Famer, David Ortiz, stated that Boston Red Sox owner, John Henry, is concerned about the difficult moment the franchise is going through in the 2026 Major League Baseball season.

Ortiz offered his statements during the celebration of his charity golf tournament “David Ortiz Celebrity Golf Classic,” where he explained that he recently held a conversation with Henry about the team’s performance, which currently occupies last place in the American League East Division.
“He is worried. We spoke recently and I can tell that both he and the entire management group are looking for solutions to improve the team’s situation,” expressed Ortiz.
Boston has a record of 25 wins and 33 losses, placing them 12 games behind first place held by the Tampa Bay Rays.
The former Dominican baseball player pointed out that fans often interpret Henry’s public silence as a lack of interest, although he assured that the reality is very different.
“John handles his emotions very well and is a very professional person. Perhaps that is why people do not perceive how much he is affected by what is happening with the team, but he is indeed worried,” stated the former slugger.
Ortiz added that the organization’s owner wants to regain the competitive level that made Boston one of the most successful franchises in Major League Baseball between 2004 and 2018, a period in which they won four World Series titles.

“He wants to find the formula to return to the old days. He is not someone who gives up, he simply understands that staying on top in this sport is becoming increasingly difficult,” he added.
The Red Sox situation has generated strong criticism among fans and the sports press, especially after the firing of manager Alex Cora and several members of the coaching staff last April.
In fact, weeks ago a small plane flew over Fenway Park with a banner asking the management to sell the team.
Ortiz reiterated that Henry is committed to improving the present and future of the franchise.
“The boss is working. He is trying to gather the necessary pieces so that things change and the team returns to competing at the highest level,” he maintained.
Several baseball figures were also present during the charity event, including the legendary Panamanian former pitcher Mariano Rivera.
