Gigantes del Cibao select Francisco Mejía in the LIDOM Re-entry Draft
SAN FRANCISCO DE MACORÍS. – The Gigantes del Cibao announced the selection of catcher Francisco Mejía in the Re-entry Draft of the Dominican Republic Professional Baseball League (LIDOM), adding to their roster one of the most consistent and experienced players in his position within winter baseball.
Mejía, belonging to the Tigres del Licey, is a 30-year-old catcher who is participating in his eighth season in the LIDOM. Throughout his career he has played five seasons with the Estrellas Orientales and three with the Tigres, an organization with which he played in the most recent regular season.
The player was originally selected by the Estrellas Orientales in the first round of the 2016 Rookie Draft, and has since built a solid career in Dominican baseball.
In the recently concluded regular season, Francisco Mejía had an outstanding offensive performance, recording a batting average of .310, with one home run, 11 RBIs and 10 doubles, being considered among the best catchers in the tournament both for his production with the bat and for his defensive performance.
Lifetime in the LIDOM, between the 2016 and 2025 seasons, Mejía has participated in 127 games, accumulating a .246 average, with three home runs, 53 RBIs, 19 doubles and an OBP of .292, establishing himself as a reliable catcher on both sides of the game.
With this selection, the Gigantes del Cibao continue to strengthen their roster for the upcoming championship commitments, betting on experience and leadership behind the plate.
The northeastern team will make five additional selections during the draw, in accordance with the league regulations.
