With the triumph, the Estrellas improved their record to 19-25 and climbed to fourth place, tied with the Leones del Escogido, in a close fight for the postseason classification.

Decision of the encounter

Reliever Gregory Santos (1-0) was credited with the victory, while Enyel de los Santos (0-1) took the loss. Patrick Weigel earned his fourth save, pitching one and a third perfect innings, with four strikeouts.

Game Development

Licey took the lead in the top of the third inning, when Francisco Mejía hit a two-run double with two outs, driving in Luis Barrera and Gustavo Núñez. The Stars reacted in the closing of that same inning, also with two outs. Rodolfo Castro hit a solo home run to left field against Ofreidy Gómez. Immediately afterwards, Ismael Munguía singled and scored from first thanks to a triple by Jorge Mateo to center field, in a play in which the outfielder could not catch the ball at ground level. In the fifth inning, Licey loaded the bases, but Jefry Yan dominated Mel Rojas with a line drive to left field to extinguish the threat.

The Decisive Hit

The eastern offensive struck again in the seventh inning against Enyel de los Santos. After a strikeout of Francisco Peña, Raimel Tapia, Robinson Canó and Dairon Blanco connected consecutive singles to load the bases. Although De los Santos struck out Rodolfo Castro for the second out, Ismael Munguía responded with a single to right field that drove in Tapia and Cano, setting the final score at 4-2.

Classification Overview

The triumph allowed the Estrellas to take advantage of the Leones del Escogido’s defeat against the Águilas Cibaeñas and maintain firm aspirations of advancing to the next phase of the tournament.
