Philadelphia. Dominican Juan Soto stole the show this Saturday by hitting two home runs and recording his best offensive day of the year, leading the New York Mets to a crushing 11-4 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies, marked by a historic display of power with seven solo home runs.
Soto finished the night batting 5-4 with two home runs, four RBIs, two runs scored, and raised his batting average to .256. His offense was key to breaking the team’s seven-game losing streak, which had set off alarms in the clubhouse.
“We have to be better than we are, especially me,” Francisco Lindor had said after Friday’s defeat. And he delivered. The shortstop also contributed with a home run in the third inning, cutting a personal 18-at-bat hitless streak.
The home run festival started early, when Brandon Nimmo opened the first inning with a four-corner hit. In the third inning, the bats exploded: Lindor, Nimmo (his second of the game) and Soto hit consecutive home runs against starter Mick Abel, shaking Citizens Bank Park.
