SANTO DOMINGO. – The possibility of seeing Juan Soto in a Tigres del Licey uniform in the current LIDOM season is getting closer, although his debut will depend directly on the performance of the blue team in the decisive games of the regular season.
The Licey general manager, Audo Vicente, confirmed that the stellar outfielder already has permission from the New York Mets to play in Dominican winter baseball. However, he clarified that his participation will be subject to the team’s competitive situation in the last two games.
“He has the permit, what we must do is wait to see what happens at least today”, expressed Vicente in statements referring to the match this Monday.

The Tigres, with a record of 21-27, occupy the last place in the table and face tonight the Gigantes del Cibao (22-26), third in the standings, but just one game ahead of the blues. A victory would keep Licey alive in the fight for one of the four qualifying spots, where only Águilas Cibaeñas and Toros del Este have their ticket secured.
Vicente indicated that Soto would not see action tonight, but a victory for the capital team would more clearly open the door for his immediate debut.
“We have to come out on top today so that he can participate”, the executive pointed out, adding that if the objective is achieved, “from today we can sit down and talk in a different way”.
The eventual presence of Juan Soto in the LIDOM would be a historic event, as he is the player with the highest contract in baseball history, wearing the uniform of a Dominican team in a winter league.
