Lions secure the continuity of González, Brito, Cordero, Marmolejos, and Colomé

SANTO DOMINGO. – The Baseball Operations management of Leones del Escogido announced the retention of players Erik González, Sócrates Brito, Franchy Cordero, José Marmolejos, and Alexander Colomé, who will continue to wear the scarlet uniform after being part of the recent list of free agents released by the league and the National Federation of Professional Baseball Players.

Shortstop Erik González, 34, is coming off winning the Gold Glove in the 2025-26 tournament and was also recognized as Man of the Year. In the regular season, he batted .299 with a .759 OPS, 14 RBIs, and 25 runs scored in 44 games. In the postseason, he maintained his offensive consistency with a .281 average, .350 OBP, six stolen bases, and eight RBIs in 23 games. Outfielder Socrates Brito, 33, played 45 games in the regular season, where he recorded a .294 average, three home runs, 25 RBIs, and nine stolen bases. In the playoffs, he was again a key player in winning the championship, contributing 12 RBIs and 10 stolen bases in 23 games. For his part, Franchy Cordero equaled his personal best for home runs in a season (5), a feat he hadn’t achieved since 2017-18. In 40 games he batted .263, with 17 RBIs and a .775 OPS. In addition, he shone in the 2026 Caribbean Series held in Guadalajara, leading the tournament with three home runs and six RBIs. The also-starting pitcher and outfielder José Marmolejos had a solid performance in 26 regular season games, with a .269 average and .785 OPS. He highlighted a streak of 11 consecutive games hitting in December. In the Round Robin he was key with 11 RBIs and a .276 average. In the relay, Alexander Colomé, 37 years old, once again demonstrated his experience in decisive moments. In the postseason, he pitched 8.1 innings without allowing earned runs, with six strikeouts and a 2-0 record. Since the 2024-25 tournament, he has accumulated 21.1 consecutive innings without earned runs in the playoffs, solidifying himself as one of the most reliable arms in the team. The five players will play under the mutual option modality, granting the Escogido the right of reservation for the 2027-28 season as an option of the team. With these renewals, the 18-time national champions strengthen the base of the team that has dominated the last two campaigns and announced that they will soon announce new signings of their own free agents.
