CHICAGO.– Dominican pitcher Luis Castillo was acquired by the Chicago White Sox from the Seattle Mariners in a four-player trade made before the Major League Baseball Trade Deadline.

As part of the transaction, Seattle received reliever Seranthony Domínguez, outfielder Nolan Jones, and catching prospect Boston Smith, ranked as the White Sox organization’s number 15 prospect.
Chicago will also assume the remainder of the Dominican right-hander’s contract, which includes approximately $30 million guaranteed through the end of the 2027 season, according to MLB.com.
Castillo, 33, arrived at the Mariners in 2022 and became a key piece of the rotation, helping the franchise end a 21-year postseason drought.

In the current campaign, the Dominican records a 5.06 ERA in 20 appearances, 17 of them as a starter. Although he has gone through an irregular season, he continues to be one of the most experienced and durable pitchers in Major League Baseball.
The Seattle organization decided to leverage the depth of its pitching staff to strengthen other areas of the team, while the White Sox incorporate a veteran with extensive experience and a track record as a starter.
With this move, Luis Castillo will begin a new stage in his career with the White Sox, who are looking to bolster their rotation for the end of the season.
