SANTO DOMINGO.– The Leones del Escogido were three outs away from securing the victory this Sunday against the Toros del Este, but they failed to close the game in the ninth inning, allowing the team from La Romana to take their first win of the LIDOM Final Series.
Despite the setback, the scarlet leader Ramón Santiago was clear in his message after the game: maintain focus and prepare to seek victory in the next match, highlighting that his team continues to lead the series, now 2-1.
“We have to turn the page. We know we are facing a great team, but tomorrow we must come ready and focused on winning the game,” Santiago said when talking to the media after the match.
The Lions’ manager also valued positive aspects of his team’s performance, especially the mound work, even though the offense did not produce at the usual level.
“We couldn’t take advantage of the opportunities as we are used to offensively, but we understand that not every day you score five or six runs. The pitching did its job and kept us in the game until the ninth inning,” he pointed out.
Santiago also explained that the plans for the fourth game of the series changed due to the days off caused by the rain and a flu process affecting pitcher Radhamés Liz, who was initially scheduled to start.
“Tomorrow’s opener will be Travis Lakins. He already has his five days of rest. This team has shown throughout the season, including the Round Robin, that it knows how to recover from defeats. It’s a resilient group that doesn’t give up and always fights,” he affirmed.
The fourth game of the Final Series will be played this Monday at the Francisco A. Micheli stadium in La Romana, starting at 5:00 p.m.
