TAMPA, Florida.. In an alarming moment before the start of the game between the Miami Marlins and the Tampa Bay Rays at George M. Steinbrenner Field, left-handed pitcher Ryan Weathers was accidentally hit in the head by a throw from his own catcher, Nick Fortes, while making his final warm-up pitches.

The incident occurred just before Weathers threw his first official pitch of the game. Fortes’ routine throw to second base hit the pitcher in the head, who immediately fell to the mound, generating a reaction of concern and astonishment from the public and his teammates.
The Marlins’ medical staff quickly entered to attend to the player, who remained on the ground for a few moments before rejoining the game.
