Brazilian midfielder Casemiro praised Lionel Messi for returning to the field with Inter Miami just five days after the death of his father, Jorge Messi, calling the Argentine star an example of commitment and resilience.
Messi returned Wednesday night against Club León in the Leagues Cup, after briefly traveling to Argentina to attend his father’s funeral.
Speaking after Inter Miami’s 3-2 defeat, Casemiro said Messi’s decision to play despite his personal loss was remarkable.
“He is an example. Surely he is going through a very difficult time, but his commitment not only to the players, but also to the club, was incredible. I had never seen that in my life,” Casemiro said.
The Brazilian midfielder added that the team could only thank Messi for being there, saying his ability to respond in such difficult circumstances is part of what makes him one of the greatest players in football
