Messi was threatened with death multiple times during 2026 World Cup

Several people reportedly contacted police with threats to kill Argentina captain Lionel Messi during the 2026 World Cup, according to Marca, which cited a leaked FBI report.

One of the reported threats came before Argentina’s match against Jordan in Dallas on June 27. According to the report, a man allegedly called a local airport and claimed he planned to enter the stadium with two other people carrying homemade bombs and an AR-15 rifle, with Messi identified as his target.

Another serious threat was reported ahead of Argentina’s match against Egypt in Atlanta on July 7. According to Marca, one suspect posted on social media that he intended to enter the stadium and attack Messi with four bombs attached to his body.

During the same match, another person reportedly called police claiming that a bomb had been placed in a trash bin in the stadium stands. Police dogs searched the area but found no explosive device.

The reported threats were investigated by authorities, although the information available in the cited report does not establish that any of the alleged plans progressed beyond threats.
