Madrid (EFE).- Carlos Alcaraz, number one in the ATP ranking, will be part of the Spanish team that will play in the Final 8 of the Davis Cup in Bologna (Italy), from November 19 to 23.
Alcaraz, winner this year of Roland Garros and the US Open, among others, will be part of the Spanish team along with Jaume Munar, Pedro Martínez, Marcel Granollers and one more player whose name will be decided the last week, as announced by the Spanish coach David Ferrer, in a press conference at the headquarters of the Consejo Superior de Deportes (CSD).
The low in the last knockout round
This way, Alcaraz, who has a record of five wins and one loss in the tournament, returns to the Spanish team after missing the last tie that pitted his team against Denmark, in Marbella, which he renounced due to “muscle and mental fatigue” after winning the Grand Slam in the United States, the sixth of his career, last September.
His absence in that face-off against the Danes was more than noticeable, but, despite it, Spain achieved a meritorious triumph, overcoming a 0-2 deficit thanks above all to the contribution of Pedro Martínez, who first won the doubles with Munar and then defeated Holger Rune, the rival’s number one. Finally, Pablo Carreño finished off the tie by defeating Elmer Moeller.

The Asturian will be, for the moment, one of the two absentees compared to the last call-up along with Roberto Carballés. His place will surely be occupied by Marcel Granollers, a doubles specialist who in 2025 has won in that modality the same two Grand Slams as Alcaraz, and another name that will be decided in the last week.
Ferrer Leaves All Doors Open
Ferrer didn’t want to give any clues and left all doors open, including the possibility that one of the two absentees is related to the Marbella crossing or the Malaga native Alejandro Davidovich-Fokina, number 18 in the world and whose last match in the tournament was on September 11, 2023.
The chosen ones will face a final phase of the Davis Cup in Bologna, where they will debut in the quarterfinals against the Czech Republic. In case of victory, their rival will come out of the duel between Argentina and Germany. In addition, in the two remaining duels between the best eight, Italy, host and current champion, will face Austria and France against Belgium.
