Venezuelan outfielder Danry Vásquez sparked a bench-clearing brawl during a Mexican Baseball League (LMB) game between the Toros de Tijuana and Acereros de Monclova after punching an opposing player following a play at third base.
The incident occurred after Vásquez was tagged out in a rundown. Video from the game shows the Venezuelan throwing a punch that knocked his opponent to the ground before kicking him, prompting players from both teams to rush onto the field and triggering a mass confrontation.
League officials and the Toros de Tijuana organization are reviewing the umpires’ report and video footage to determine possible disciplinary action, including suspensions or fines.
The altercation has renewed attention on Vásquez’s past off-field conduct. In 2016, he was arrested after assaulting his then-girlfriend, an incident that led to his suspension by Major League Baseball and the termination of his contract with the Houston Astros. In 2018, after surveillance video of the assault became public, he was also released by the Lancaster Barnstormers of the Atlantic League.
