Heavy rain and hurricane-force winds swept through Maracaibo, Venezuela, on Sunday night, causing widespread property damage but no reported fatalities, local authorities said.
The storm brought down trees and billboards while strong gusts tore zinc roofs and other debris from homes in several neighborhoods across the city. Emergency crews were dispatched to respond to reports from residents and assess the damage.
Maracaibo Mayor Gian Carlo Di Martino said teams from Risk Management, the Fire Department, Civil Protection, Polimaracaibo and the city’s Security Directorate worked alongside the National Guard and National Police to address the emergencies.
Authorities said cleanup operations continued Monday, with crews clearing roads, removing debris and assisting families whose homes were damaged by the storm.
