Flight LA2399 between Montevideo and Lima, which took off on Thursday morning, had to make an emergency landing after suffering an engine failure caused by a bird strike. Given this situation, the pilots applied safety protocols and returned to Carrasco International Airport.
The aircraft is currently at the airport, where relevant checks are being carried out to determine the extent of the damage sustained. The Air Force stated in a press release that “the situation was managed in accordance with operational safety protocols.”

Fuel dumping over water
The aircraft, which suffered the incident during its takeoff run after the right turbine ingested a bird, immediately activated emergency protocols. According to the Uruguayan media outlet Telenoche, the pilots had to dump fuel over the water to reach the appropriate weight and ensure a safe landing.
The radar trajectory maps show how the plane was performing holding patterns (circles) off the coast of the Uruguayan capital before landing, with an approximate time in the air of two hours.
