Announces graduation project for Guayacanes residents
Juan Dolio, San Pedro de Macorís. – President Luis Abinader, together with Minister of Tourism David Collado, inaugurated a new wastewater treatment plant that will have a major impact on the population of the communities of Juan Dolio and Guayacanes, contributing to the sustainable development of these tourist destinations.
Works like these allow for improving the community’s quality of life, favoring health, well-being, and development, thanks to their capacity to process water and return it to its environment with fewer pollutants.
The head of state communicated the importance of continuing to bring these works to coastal and beach areas, for which he reported that, in conjunction with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), it is planned to begin another wastewater treatment plant in Boca Chica next September, and it will subsequently be extended to places such as Higüey and Verón.

In this same scenario, and with great joy from the community members present, Abinader announced that the Government is working on a project to deliver property titles in Guayacanes.
Works to serve the people
For his part, David Collado highlighted that the project delivered today, whose initial work was carried out about 20 years ago, was qualified as a priority by the Tourism Cabinet presided over by President Luis Abinader.
“This is the vision of the Tourism Cabinet: state continuity, sustainability, by preventing all wastewater from flowing into the beaches of Juan Dolio, and a commitment to transparency,” the official stated.
Work performed
This project, in accordance with current environmental regulations, includes the authorization, adaptation, and commissioning of the wastewater treatment plant and the execution of complementary works necessary to ensure its correct operation, safety, and accessibility.
As a priority, maintenance and repair of the main components of the treatment system were carried out, including clarifiers, trickling filters, screen towers, disinfection modules, sludge systems, and pumping equipment, as well as the installation of an electromagnetic flow meter and the replacement of the bypass valve to the old plant.
It also included the cleaning and conditioning of the plant area and its surroundings, the improvement of the access road, lighting and signage, the enabling of electrical installations, and the repair of the electric generator.
Likewise, as part of the work, sanitary interconnection tasks, strengthening of the perimeter fencing, and adaptation of the operational areas were carried out. The project concludes with the commissioning of the system, the verification of the treated water quality parameters, and the training of the operational personnel.

The investment for this project was RD$37,082,237.
