Santo Domingo.– President Luis Abinader swore in this Friday a commission that will be in charge of directing the opening of the Historical Museum of the April 1965 Uprising, an initiative aimed at rescuing and projecting the memory of this transcendental event.
The provision, established by Decree 200-26, assigns the team the task of coordinating the necessary steps for the museum to become operational, including the definition of its administrative structure and the selection of its executive management.
The group will be chaired by lawyer Jottin Cury David, who highlighted that the project seeks to turn history into a learning tool for new generations, fostering knowledge of democratic values and the defense of national sovereignty.
During the event, held at the National Palace, the importance of having a space to understand the scope of the events of April 1965 was highlighted, considered a key point in the political history of the country.
Cury David maintained that one of the main challenges is to bring these events closer to young people, many of whom have limited references to what happened, which —he warned— represents a challenge for the preservation of historical memory.
Furthermore, he raised the relevance of locating the museum in a place with symbolic value, such as the Copello building, due to its role during the conflict.
The commission will be made up of various personalities who will work on an honorary basis in the development of this project, conceived as an educational and commemorative space.
With this initiative, the Government seeks to strengthen historical knowledge and pay tribute to those who starred in the feat, promoting greater awareness of the importance of democracy and national identity.
