Santo Domingo.– Amidst the multiple complaints and grievances from citizens in different parts of the country due to the constant blackouts in recent weeks, this Saturday, August 16,
President Luis Abinader will make an official visit to the Punta Catalina thermoelectric plant in the province of Peravia.
The presidential agenda, which will take place from 4 in the afternoon, includes a tour of the facilities of the energy complex, considered one of the most strategic projects in the country in terms of electricity generation.
The president’s visit is part of the government’s efforts to follow up on the operations of the main
electricity generating plants, at a time when policies are being strengthened to guarantee the stability and sustainability of the national electricity system.

Punta Catalina, inaugurated in 2020, still has no scheduled date for re-entry into the system because repairs are still in progress. Unit two of the Empresa de Generación Eléctrica Punta Catalina (EGEPC), suffered a technical failure, and is the
cause of the blackouts that are affecting a large part of the Dominican population.
In that sense, the president of the Unified Council of Distribution Companies (CUED), Celso Marranzini, asked for patience from the population.
