The Agri-food Safety and Plant Health departments of the Ministry of Agriculture presented the main achievements during the year 2025, highlighting that the entry of quarantine pests into the country was not recorded. This result is attributed to the strengthening of controls in airports, ports and border areas.
During the presentation, the Director of Plant Health, Rosa Lazala, along with Jaime Elías, in charge of transportation at airports, emphasized that the protection of entry points was fundamental to guarantee national food security. Both highlighted the importance of coordinated work between the different technical areas of the ministry.
They also reported that the institution has reinforced phytosanitary surveillance processes and that technicians continue to receive training in quarantine procedures, which has contributed to keeping the country free of high-risk pests.
In that sense, Jaime Elías stated that the results obtained are the product of constant preventive work, and that the absence of quarantine pests demonstrates the effectiveness of the controls implemented.
For its part, the Food Safety Directorate indicated that monitoring of residues and contaminants in the field is maintained, covering all agricultural items. These actions seek to guarantee safer food for the population and strengthen confidence in national production.

Finally, officials reiterated that these phytosanitary measures are part of the institutional vision of promoting sustainable agriculture, based on high standards of plant health and food safety, essential pillars for the development of the agricultural sector and the country’s food security.
