Santo Domingo.– The executive director of the National Institute of Physical Education (INEFI), Alberto Rodríguez, assured that the implementation of the Community School Sports Initiation Centers (CIDE) represents a transcendental step for the development of student and community sports in the National District and the country. Rodríguez explained that the first CIDE has a modern multipurpose court, equipped for the practice of basketball, volleyball, futsal and badminton, as well as specialized areas that strengthen the integral formation of children and young people. “We are talking about a center that not only has a new court, but also a combat room focused mainly on girls for self-defense, where disciplines such as karate, taekwondo and judo will be taught,” said the official. He also reported that the space has a table tennis room and another one for the science sport, chess, a discipline included in the curriculum of the Dominican educational system.

Rodríguez stated he felt proud of the project, highlighting his experience of more than 15 years linked to the sports sector and the joint work with neighborhood councils, entrepreneurs and sponsors who have historically supported the strengthening of the sector’s sports structure. He highlighted the support of the private sector, mentioning the contribution of entrepreneurs who have contributed to the development of superior basketball and minor categories, as well as the donation made by the President of the Republic, who delivered a 32-passenger bus and complementary equipment for the operation of the club. The head of INEFI also announced the integration of the Ministry of Sports and the Ministry of Education into the project, with the aim of replicating this model nationwide.

“We want this name to stay in everyone’s mind: CIDE, Community School Sports Initiation Center, where the school, athletes, the community, and the neighborhood converge, offering our children and youth a healthy option for recreation, training, and entertainment,” he affirmed.

Rodríguez emphasized that participation in these centers is not for profit and that their main purpose is to provide opportunities for integral development, keeping children and youth away from risky behaviors through sports and education.
