Santiago. – Thousands of people participated this Sunday in the massive walk “A Step for my Family 2025“, organized by the Archdiocese of Santiago, where the metropolitan archbishop, Monsignor Héctor Rafael Rodríguez, called to strengthen the dignity and greatness of the Dominican family in the face of the growing challenges it faces.
During the homily celebrated in Central Park, Monsignor Rodriguez warned that the Dominican family is experiencing pressures that compromise its stability, mentioning the loss of the meaning of marriage as a permanent alliance, the proliferation of lifestyles without commitment, violence and disrespect in the home, normalized infidelity, emotional abandonment, addictions, individualism, and the distortion of sexuality promoted by various ideologies.
He added that economic pressure and the disordered use of technology are added to these problems, factors that “isolate, distract and weaken family life.” He pointed out that recognizing these realities “is not pessimism, but an urgent call to protect what we love.”

Call for public policies in defense of the home

The archbishop insisted that when Christ is at the center, family life finds order, comfort, and hope. Furthermore, he urged working for public policies that protect families, create safe environments for children, and strengthen parish communities that accompany and guide.
The event was attended by Vice President Raquel Peña, Mayor Ulises Rodríguez, Governor Rosa Santos, Senator Daniel Espinal, as well as civil and military authorities and church leaders.
The walk started from the Cibao Stadium to the Central Park, where the Eucharist was celebrated. This national activity, which is 14 years old since its creation in 2012 by the National Family Commission, seeks to promote unity, Christian values, and home stability during the family month, declared by national decree.

During the ceremony, spouses Juan Cruz and Idalia Brito de Cruz read a manifesto from the National Commission of Families, expressing concern about the sentence TC/1225/25, which eliminates sanctions for consensual relationships within the National Police and the Armed Forces. They stated that the decision lacks a clear explanation and urged a thorough analysis due to its possible social, cultural, and geopolitical impacts.
They also urged the President of the Republic to “act with historical responsibility” to preserve the moral integrity of the fundamental institutions of the country.
