Miami.- The halftime show by Puerto Rican artist Bad Bunny during Super Bowl LX, which will be played this Sunday, February 8, is expected to surpass the performance of Shakira and Jennifer Lopez at Super Bowl LIV as the most-watched Latin show in the history of television in the United States, according to experts. The performance by the Colombian artist and the American artist of Puerto Rican roots was watched by 103 million viewers in 2020, according to Nielsen audience measurement data. However, it is expected to be surpassed this year by the show of Bad Bunny, who was the most played artist on the Spotify platform in 2025. “Bad Bunny not only attracts Latinos, Spotify named him the number one artist of the year. We didn’t do all that; it was the whole world that did it“, said to EFE Stacie de Armas, Senior Vice President of Perspectives and Inclusive Initiatives at Nielsen.

Despite the criticism that the artist and the NFL have faced for the choice of Bad Bunny, including some from the American president, Donald Trump, the expert suggested that the Puerto Rican, “has long been acclaimed and adored throughout the United States“.

Last year’s Super Bowl recorded an audience of 127.7 million viewers, which would be enough to easily surpass the Shakira and Jennifer Lopez show, and other outstanding Latin performances. Shakira and Jennifer López – Super Bowl LIV (2020)
La Loba and JLo were the stars of the Super Bowl 2020 halftime show, which was held at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, and became one of the most memorable performances in recent years by bringing together two Latin stars on stage. According to Nielsen figures, up to 103 million viewers witnessed the choreographies of both, a record figure to date for a performance by a Latin artist in the United States. Topics like Shakira’s ‘Hips Don’t Lie’ or ‘Waka Waka’, and Jennifer Lopez’s ‘On the Floor’, offered the world “a powerful message of female empowerment”, according to the audience measurer. On that occasion, other Latinos such as Bad Bunny, J Balvin, and Emme Muñiz also participated as guest artists.

Gloria Estefan – Super Bowl XXXIII (1999)
The performance by Cuban-American Gloria Estefan during the halftime show of Super Bowl XXXIII in 1999 recorded 83.7 million viewers, becoming the second most-watched show by a Latino protagonist on national television.

The show was inspired by Miami, Estefan’s city of residence, under the theme ‘A Celebration of Soul, Salsa and Swing’, and was supported by Stevie Wonder and the band Big Bad Voodoo Daddy. This was the second time Estefan participated in a halftime show at the most-watched annual event in the United States, following her 1992 performance.
Gloria Estefan – Super Bowl XXVI (1992)
The Cuban-American artist also holds the third most re-broadcast Latin show, when she closed the ‘Winter Magic’ show of Super Bowl XXVI in 1992, which was watched by 79.6 million viewers. The show celebrated the winter season and the Winter Olympics that would take place that year in the French city of Albertville and Estefan made his appearance a few minutes before the end on a stage where he performed songs like ‘Get on your feet’ or ‘Live for Loving You’.
