Santo Domingo Norte.– Mayor Betty Gerónimo began the total reconstruction work of the fire station that remained abandoned for more than 10 years, calling the project as “a historic work” for the municipality.
During the groundbreaking ceremony, the official highlighted that the lack of this infrastructure had serious consequences, recalling the fire that destroyed the L&R Comercial furniture store, where, as she explained, the absence of a nearby station forced the mobilization of units from sectors such as Sabana Perdida, La Victoria, the National District, and Boca Chica.
“If this station had been operational, something else would have happened,” Geronimo said, speaking about the importance of having timely emergency services in the area.
The mayor also denounced alleged irregularities in previous administrations, pointing out that they found more than 10 works with economic advances without execution.
“Where is that money? They will know. We are acting on the legal side,” he affirmed.
Geronimo explained that, after assuming the mayor’s office, the project faced legal obstacles that delayed its start. However, he assured that after presenting the situation to President Luis Abinader, he immediately approved the reconstruction of the station, with an investment of 15 million pesos.
The work includes the reconstruction of the perimeter fence, sanitary and electrical installations, general painting, rehabilitation of offices, bedrooms and meeting room, among other areas. In addition, the mayor indicated that the place had been turned into a focus of crime, which made its intervention urgent.
“We are delivering quality works, with transparency. Here, no work begins without having the guaranteed funds,” he assured, while defending his management against criticism, stating that he responds “with deeds and not with speeches.”
Geronimo estimated that the works could be concluded in an approximate period of three months, if the climatic conditions allow it, which would return to the community an essential service for citizen security.
Finally, he called on the population to remain vigilant and to demand concrete results from their authorities.
“Don’t talk so much, go out and work for the municipality,” he concluded.
