San Cristóbal. – During the closing ceremony of Expo Constitución 2025, with the presence of President Luis Abinader, the Minister of Industry, Commerce and Mipymes, Víctor Bisonó, announced the official accreditation of the Denomination of Origin Oro Verde de Cambita, a milestone that opens new export opportunities for this renowned agricultural product from San Cristóbal.
The minister highlighted that this accreditation, granted by the Dominican Accreditation Body (ODAC), will allow Cambita’s avocado to access highly demanding international markets, such as the European one, by providing technical support, traceability, and an internationally recognized quality seal.
As explained, although the avocado from Cambita already had a Designation of Origin due to its exceptional agro-climatic conditions, it was necessary to obtain an accredited endorsement to turn that distinction into a real competitive advantage.
“Today we can say, with satisfaction, that this step has been taken, and it has been taken well,” he expressed.
The process was possible thanks to the joint work between the MICM, the ODAC, the CODOCA and the European Union, under the leadership of President Luis Abinader.
The minister highlighted that this achievement strengthens the national quality infrastructure, by consolidating the country’s ability to accredit products with territorial identity without depending on international organizations.
Likewise, it was pointed out that the progress marks a gateway for other Dominican sectors to aspire to similar certifications, thus raising their competitiveness and reputation in global markets.
During the event, the official accreditation was presented to the president of the Cambita Avocado Cluster, José Rosa, representing the local producers.
