Santo Domingo. – The candidate for the presidency of the Bar Association of the Dominican Republic (CARD) for the 2026-2029 term, Francisco Núñez Cáceres, denounced this Tuesday the existence of an alleged multi-million dollar embezzlement in that institution and requested that an audit be carried out covering the financial management of the last ten years.
During a press conference, Núñez Cáceres stated that irregularities had occurred within the guild which, according to him, involve the theft of “hundreds of millions of pesos” belonging to the association’s funds.
“We are requesting that the Bar Association be investigated for the last ten years, because the theft that has been committed is too great,” expressed the jurist, who asked the Chamber of Accounts to intervene to carry out an exhaustive investigation.

The candidate to lead the CARD also questioned decisions made by previous administrations regarding the institution’s assets, while denouncing the existence of internal conflicts between groups currently disputing control of the guild.
Likewise, he assured that there are frozen economic resources linked to the school and warned about alleged attempts at agreements between opposing sectors to manage said funds, although he did not present documentation to support those claims during the meeting with the press.

Núñez Cáceres maintained that, if elected, he will promote actions to make the administrative management of the institution transparent and bring to justice any irregularity that can be proven through the corresponding investigations.
During his speech, he also raised the need to strengthen transparency within the guild and stated that the Bar Association must recover its role as a defense body for legal professionals.
So far, the CARD authorities have not issued an official reaction regarding the accusations made by the candidate.
